Lest We Forget – Battle of Midway, 4-7 June 1942
The Battle of Midway is considered the decisive naval battle in the Pacific with the defeat of the Imperial Japanese carrier task force attempting to capture Midway Island. In the span of those 3 days carrier aviation replaced the battleship as the capital ship of the Navy. The fate of the Japanese attacking force was sealed with the sinking of four carriers by a small group of Naval Aviators, heroes all, whose unselfish and brave acts carried the day. Today when there is a world crisis, the first question asked by every president is “Where are the carriers?”. They are, and continue to be, the first responders on scene as they are a ready source of US military power upon arrival.
